Arizona +3½ +100 Seattle

4:25 PM EST. Apparently Arizona beating the Chargers last week has been declared a fluke before the Cardinals even had a chance to enjoy it. The prevailing opinion seems to be that Seattle is the real team here, Arizona caught lightning in a bottle and normal programming will resume immediately. Perhaps. But when seemingly everyone arrives at the same conclusion and we're being handed more than a field goal with the home team, we're willing to investigate a little further.

Arizona didn't steal last week's game with a blocked punt, a Hail Mary and divine intervention. The Cardinals outgained Los Angeles 393-268, possessed the ball for more than 37 minutes and looked like the better football team. Now we're getting +4½ at home because nobody believes what they just saw. Jacoby Brissett is another reason we're not anxious to dismiss Arizona. Nobody is putting his picture on the side of the stadium, but he's playing extremely well and there may be something to a veteran quarterback finally getting another legitimate opportunity. Brissett has spent much of his career being treated as somebody's temporary solution, and he's playing like a guy with a rather large chip on his shoulder. He threw for 277 yards last week, Trey McBride remains one of the best receiving tight ends in football and Arizona has enough legitimate weapons to make Seattle defend the entire field.

Meanwhile, Seattle is being priced as though its opening-night victory answered every question. We saw something different. The Seahawks fell behind 10-0, struggled offensively and needed three fourth-quarter interceptions to escape with a 13-10 victory. Credit the defense for making those plays, but that's a much different story than Seattle controlling the game. Now the Seahawks go back on the road after an emotional comeback win, with another significant travel assignment and Drew Lock replacing the injured Sam Darnold. Lock has been around long enough that there isn't much mystery attached to him.

Seattle may have the better defense and perhaps the better roster, but asking a backup quarterback to go on the road and win comfortably is considerably different from simply asking Seattle to win. That's really the point here. We're not declaring Arizona a contender because it beat the Chargers, nor do we need the Cardinals to win this game. We're taking +3½ at home against a Seattle team coming off a game in which its offense produced very little and its defense had to rescue it late.

Arizona showed us something last week that the market seems determined not to believe, Brissett is playing good football and the Cardinals have enough offensive weaponry to make this uncomfortable for four quarters. If last week really was a fluke, we'll pay to find out. At this price, we're willing to bet it wasn't.
