Buffalo -½ +140 over Boston
NHL Playoff Series Game 4
Buffalo leads series 2-1
2:00 PM EST. (Regulation only). Game four, and the situation is simple. Buffalo has a chance to take a 3–1 series lead and head home for Game 5 with full control. That may or may not happen, but what we do know — and what matters most — is that Buffalo has outplayed Boston in every single game of this series.
Start with the shot totals. In Game 1, the Sabres outshot the Bruins 37–20. In Game 2, they outshot them again. In Game 3, same story. Even in the loss, Buffalo still held the edge 35–27, and the difference was goaltending, not territorial play. When a team consistently controls the puck, drives play, and generates more opportunities, that’s not noise — that’s signal.
The possession metrics tell the same story. At 5-on-5 offensive-zone time, Buffalo has dominated this matchup. Of the 16 playoff teams, the Sabres rank third in offensive-zone possession, while Boston sits 14th. That gap isn’t subtle. It reflects a team dictating pace, forcing play into the attacking zone, and wearing down its opponent shift after shift.
Now, can Boston win? Of course. Hockey is a volatile sport, and results often hinge on bounces, deflections, and hot goaltending. But that’s exactly the point — we’re not betting outcomes based on luck. We’re betting the process, and the process has clearly favored Buffalo.
Some losses are actually instructive, especially for a young team. Buffalo learned in Game 2 that playoff hockey demands a full 60 minutes and stable goaltending. They pushed late but ran out of time. That’s part of the learning curve, and it’s also how inexperienced teams evolve into dangerous ones.
The Sabres are the better team in this series. The Bruins may be the savvier one, but savvy doesn’t overcome sustained territorial pressure forever. If the underlying play remains the same — and there’s no reason to think it won’t — Buffalo will outplay Boston again and if the better team controls the puck, controls the pace, and controls the zone, their chances of winning are rock solid. We're going with the best of it here.
