7:00 PM ET. Regulation only. Boston buried the Islanders on Tuesday to quiet the noise after being run out of Ottawa the night before. That 5-2 win looks clean on paper, but anyone watching saw a team still searching for rhythm, capitalizing on New York mistakes more than dictating play. Now the Bruins return home for the third game in four nights, their third city in that same span, and it’s not hard to spot a potential flat spot.

Buffalo’s off to a slow start away from home, but the numbers underneath tell a story of a team trending up. The Sabres have picked up points in six of seven, losing twice in overtime — both games where they led in the third. They’ve outchanced opponents five-on-five in every one of those outings, yet they’ve had nothing but bad puck luck closing games. This is the type of profile we like to attack — undervalued effort disguised as inconsistency.

The Sabres’ goaltending rotation has stabilized, and they’re getting saves at the right moments now. Alex Lyon quietly stopped 33 of 37 against Columbus, and the Sabres’ defensive zone exits have improved dramatically since Lindy Ruff shuffled his blue-line pairings. The line of Krebs, Malenstyn, and Dunne is doing the dirty work — puck retrievals, forechecking, disrupting rhythm — the kind of details that travel well on the road.

Boston, meanwhile, is walking a fine line. The team that got pushed around in Ottawa is the real Bruins — aging, thin down the middle, and far too dependent on Pastrnak’s magic. They were gifted an easy night against an Islanders team that fell apart late, but that win is masking fatigue, sloppy neutral-zone play, and a penalty kill that’s been leaking goals since mid-October. Moreover, the B's are a pooch at home to the Sabres, which tells us everything we need to know.
