New York Rangers +120 over Edmonton

Madison Square Garden – New York, NY

7:30 PM ET. OT included. The market still treats the Oilers like they’re bulletproof because of McDavid and Draisaitl, while ignoring that this team habitually sleepwalks through Octobers. They’ve opened slow in each of the past two seasons and are now priced like they’re already in midseason rhythm. They’re not.

Yes, Edmonton has picked up points in its first two games and just handled Vancouver 3-1, but that score flatters them. They had nine power-play shots, yet only managed three goals total, two of which came in the first period and one into an empty net. They also benefited from an opponent on tired legs and an elite goaltending performance that kept the score respectable — not exactly the kind of repeatable recipe that warrants road favoritism in Manhattan.

Meanwhile, the Rangers have been shut out twice at home, which is precisely why we’re interested. The market loves a “can’t score” narrative, but that storyline ignores the truth — New York generated 71 shot attempts and 35 shots on goal in their 1-0 loss to Washington. Mika Zibanejad alone fired seven shots, and the team dominated long stretches of play. The puck just didn’t go in. That’s variance, not bad hockey.

Edmonton’s goaltending remains the soft underbelly of its structure. Stuart Skinner has been passable, not spectacular, and the Oilers are still giving up high-quality looks. That’s not the profile of a team that should be favored at the Garden against a club with legitimate offensive weapons and a blue line that moves the puck as well as anyone in the East.

We’re not buying Edmonton’s “fast start” hype. They’ve fooled the market before with early noise only to revert to sloppy, high-event hockey when pressed. New York, meanwhile, is quietly trending up in every underlying metric except finishing — which is exactly the kind of spot we want to attack.

Take advantage of BET365's early MLB payout offer!

For straight bets, if the team you back to win goes 5 runs ahead at any stage during the game, BET365 will pay out your bet in full regardless of whether the opposition comes back to win the game.

For parlays and Same Game Parlays, if a team you have backed goes 5 runs ahead, this selection will be marked as won within My Bets, with the remaining selections left to run.

Here is a wager we were paid out early on that would eventually lose.
