12:40 PM EST. There’s going to be a lot of noise around Nebraska’s lack of NCAA Tournament success, and that narrative will scare people away from laying a big number. Nebraska being 0-8 historically in this tournament has nothing to do with this team, this roster, or this matchup. This version of the Cornhuskers is built differently, and more importantly, they have the profile of a team that can dominate weaker opposition. This is not a feel-good story — this is a legitimate, high-level team that earned its seed through elite play on both ends of the floor.

Nebraska’s defensive presence is the biggest separator here. They were one of the top defensive teams in the Big Ten, consistently forcing turnovers and making life extremely difficult for opposing offenses. They limit quality looks, close out effectively on shooters, and control the tempo of games. Offensively, they have multiple scoring options and a reliable perimeter presence, which allows them to build and extend leads. Against a team like Troy, that balance becomes extremely difficult to deal with over the course of 40 minutes.

Troy deserves credit for getting here and battling through adversity late in the season, but this is a significant step up in class. The Trojans have not faced a team with Nebraska’s size, discipline, and defensive structure, and that gap shows up quickly in games like this. Nebraska has the ability to control this game from the opening tip, dictate pace, and steadily pull away. The number looks big on paper, but the mismatch is even bigger on the floor. This is one of the clearest separation spots on the board.
