Pittsburgh -1½ over Colorado

3:10 PM EST. The Pirates were battered yesterday, dropping a 16-4 decision to the Rockies. While Colorado might score big again, it could be challenging with Paul Skenes (RHP - PIT) making his seventh start of the season. Skenes pitched 6.1 scoreless innings against the Cardinals on Tuesday. Coors Field has humbled many fine pitchers, including the Bucs’ young phenom Jared Jones yesterday, but touching Skenes won’t be easy. He boasts an elite 14.4% swing-and-miss rate and a 0.96 WHIP. Skenes has struck out seven or more in five of his six starts across 33.1 innings, and the Rockies rank third highest in strikeouts against RHP this season, only behind the Mariners and A’s.

Dakota Hudson (RHP - COL) has pitched better lately, posting three quality starts in his last four outings. However, we remain skeptical as he still sports a 36:35 K-to-BB ratio and a 1.46 WHIP over 68.1 innings. Hudson managed just one strikeout over 6.2 innings against the Twins on Monday, and in his last home game, he gave up four earned runs on five hits over 4.1 innings against the Reds on June 5. With today’s total in Coors Field set at 12½, someone is going to score runs. We trust it will be the Pirates, so we are playing this one accordingly.
