San Diego over N.Y. Yankees

9:40 PM EST. The Yankees are 35-17, and you are no doubt going to pay a premium to back them in just about every game. Tonight is no different, as the Yanks are favored on the road in San Diego, with Yu Darvish (RHP - SD) on the mound. Darvish is in fine form so far this season, and he just spun a seven-inning gem versus the mighty Braves on Sunday, where he allowed no runs with just two hits while striking out nine and walking just one. Since his return from the IL on April 30, Darvish has racked up 25 scoreless innings and has been untouchable.

Versus the Braves, Darvish only faced a situation with runners in scoring position once on a first-inning double by Marcell Ozuna. On the day, Darvish generated 14 whiffs on 99 pitches and sat down the final 13 hitters he faced in order. Darvish is elite, and so too are the Padres despite their 27-26 record. However, that middling mark only has the Friars undervalued, as they should be treated like the Yankees or Braves in the market, but at the moment, they are not.

To that point, the Yanks are spotting a price in this game with Carlos Rodon (LHP - NYY) on the bump. Although Rodon is 5-2 with an ERA of 3.27, his xERA is a much more bloated 4.90. We’re not going to slag Rodon, as he’s a very skilled pitcher, but like the Yankees, he’s overvalued here greatly in this spot. If Rodon outduels Darvish, so be it, but that’s a tall order. Wrong side favored.
