Montreal -1½ +160 over Buffalo
NHL Playoff Series Game 6
Montreal Leads Series 3-2
8:00 PM EST. Montreal seized complete control of this series with its comeback win in Game 5 and now returns home with a chance to finish the job in front of what should be one of the loudest crowds of the postseason. The Canadiens showed a ton of composure after falling behind early in Buffalo, responding with four unanswered goals and completely taking over the middle stages of the game. That’s become a theme for this team throughout the playoffs. Montreal has consistently responded under pressure and continues to get contributions throughout the lineup instead of relying on just one scoring line. Nick Suzuki remains the offensive catalyst, while rookie Ivan Demidov is starting to emerge as a serious difference-maker after recording points in three straight games. The Canadiens are rolling offensively at exactly the right time and their power play has become a major edge in this series.
Buffalo still has enough offensive talent to be dangerous, but the Sabres have struggled badly containing Montreal’s speed and puck movement once the Canadiens establish offensive-zone pressure. The goaltending situation also feels shaky for Buffalo after another difficult outing in Game 5 forced another change between the pipes. Alex Lyon has put together a respectable overall career resume, but Montreal has consistently generated high-danger chances in this series and the Bell Centre atmosphere is only going to increase the pressure on Buffalo defensively. Meanwhile, Jakub Dobes continues to look calm and confident in net for Montreal, posting strong playoff numbers while giving the Canadiens stability in big moments. The Canadiens have also dominated faceoffs lately, which has helped them control possession and tempo throughout games
Laying the puck line makes sense here because Montreal has all the momentum and Buffalo looks like a team running out of answers defensively. The Canadiens have now won five of their last six closeout playoff games and their aggressive style tends to create separation once opponents are forced to open things up late. Montreal’s depth scoring, power-play efficiency and overall speed advantage have been major factors throughout the series and Buffalo’s inconsistent defensive structure has been exposed repeatedly. If the Sabres fall behind early, they’ll eventually have to press offensively, which should create even more transition opportunities for the Canadiens. With the crowd behind them and confidence clearly growing every game, Montreal is in a strong position to close this series out convincingly. The play is the Canadiens puck line.
