Montreal +110 over Buffalo
NHL Playoff Series Game 5
Series Tied 2-2
7:00 PM EST. Montreal dropped a frustrating 3-2 decision in Game 4 but the Canadiens were far from outplayed and there’s value backing them as a road underdog again here. The Habs generated 30 shots, earned seven power-play opportunities and controlled long stretches of possession, but simply failed to capitalize consistently around the net. That’s usually not a long-term concern for a Montreal team that finished top-10 in scoring during the regular season at 3.40 goals per game. Nick Suzuki continues to drive one of the NHL’s most dangerous transition offenses, while Cole Caufield remains a constant scoring threat every time he touches the puck in the offensive zone. Montreal has also been one of the league’s best bounce-back teams all season and has consistently responded well after losses.
The Canadiens have quietly become one of the tougher road teams in hockey, posting 24 wins away from home during the regular season while showing the ability to win in multiple styles. Over their last 10 games, Montreal has allowed just 2.2 goals per contest while operating at an outstanding 87.5% penalty kill rate. Jakub Dobes has elevated his game recently as well, recording a .918 save percentage over that same stretch and giving the Canadiens stability in net at the most important time of the season. Buffalo’s offense can still be explosive, but the Sabres remain inconsistent defensively and continue to struggle when forced to protect leads against aggressive forechecking teams like Montreal.
Buffalo deserves credit for finding a way to win Game 4, but this price feels inflated toward the home side after a one-goal victory that easily could have gone the other way. The Sabres have had trouble handling pressure as home favorites and their defensive game remains vulnerable when opponents establish sustained offensive-zone time. Montreal’s speed through the neutral zone and ability to generate chances off the rush creates matchup problems Buffalo hasn’t fully solved in this series. The Canadiens also own one of the better comeback records in the NHL, proving they can stay composed even when games tighten late. With the stronger recent defensive form, the hotter goaltending and plus-money value attached, Montreal on the moneyline is the right side tonight.
