Ottawa -1.5 +160 over Detroit

Since 2019, Ottawa Senators have owned Detroit Red Wings to the tune of a 15-2-2 record, and this version of the Red Wings looks especially vulnerable. Detroit enters winless in the new year and fresh off one of its most lifeless offensive performances in decades — 12 total shots against Pittsburgh. That’s not a bad night, that’s a system-wide red flag. When a team stops shooting, it usually means confidence is gone.

Ottawa, meanwhile, is trending in the opposite direction. The Sens are closing out a homestand playing assertive, layered hockey and just came from behind to beat Winnipeg, a team that doesn’t give games away. Tim Stützle is driving everything right now, riding a long points streak and dictating pace every time he touches the puck. Ottawa’s power play has been humming, the energy level is high, and even adversity — like Thomas Chabot eating a puck to the face — is being met with pushback and poise. That’s a team locked in.

Detroit’s issues aren’t matchup-specific; they’re identity-based. This is a club trying to be cute instead of direct, and that’s a bad recipe on the road against a team that forechecks, pressures, and finishes. Ottawa doesn’t just beat Detroit — they tend to beat them clean.
