The market is once again paying full freight for the Avalanche name, but strip away the gloss and you’re left with a team that isn’t nearly as invincible as the number suggests. Colorado is loaded with elite talent at the top, sure — MacKinnon, Makar, and now a returning Landeskog — yet underneath that top layer, this roster is still trying to find its rhythm. Mackenzie Blackwood remains out, Landeskog is playing his way back into shape, and the Avs’ depth is still being pieced together after another summer of turnover.

They opened the season in Los Angeles and were outplayed for long stretches before the Kings gift-wrapped them a couple of odd-man rushes. It’s one game, but it looked like a team still adjusting to itself. The Avalanche are used to dictating play; instead, they spent most of Tuesday reacting. Now they come home, overpriced and overvalued, against a hungry and emerging Utah side that just throttled the Kings 4–1 in their opener.

Let’s talk about Utah, a team that has worn many hats over it's hist,ory - Jets, Coyotes, Hockey Club and now Mammoth. Regardless of name, the point is, they can skate. Utah is young, quick, and fearless. Clayton Keller remains criminally underrated, Logan Cooley looks like a budding star, and Dylan Guenther gives them another dynamic shooter on the wing. That trio gives the Mammoth legitimate top-six firepower that can score with anyone. Add in the mobility of rookie defenseman Dmitry Simashev, who looks like he belongs already, and you have a team that’s only going to get better. We're buying in on the Mammoth early before the market catches up.
