Washington over N.Y. Rangers

We cannot predict whether or not the Rangers will get the sweep here, but we are confident that the Capitals are not going to go quietly into the night if their effort in Game 3 is to be considered. They outshot the Rangers 29-22, including a 14-5 third period, but they could not solve Igor Shesterkin and close the 3-1 deficit, which is where the game settled after 60 minutes of action. The story of the night was the Caps going 0-6 on the power play, while the Rangers would go 1-4, and they would add their second short-handed goal of the series.

Caps franchise forward Alex Ovechkin has taken his lumps through three games, as he’s failed to post a point, but the Rangers' big guns are also lacking, as both forward Artemi Panarin and defenseman Adam Fox each have just one point in the series. While “Ovi” hasn’t tallied a point yet, it’s not like the Caps have not had their chances to win games in this series, as they’ve scored the first goal in the last two games, and they were the better team 5-on-5 in both Games 2 and 3, but have nothing to show for it.

We saw yesterday that it can be very difficult to sweep a team, as both the Islanders and Lightning fought for dear life and will play another day, and we expect that same fight here from the Caps. If the special teams continue to be as lopsided as they have been in favor of the Rangers, they are very likely going to have their brooms out, but those chances and the results thereof are luck-based and cannot be counted on from game to game. At the end of the day, the Rangers stock is through the roof, and they are so overvalued that it’s not even funny. The Capitals figure to fight like an animal with its back against the wall, and at the inflated price they are being offered at present, tremendous value.
