Detroit +100 over Tampa Bay

7:07 PM EST. OT included. It looks like the Lightning are hot right now with five straight wins but don’t be fooled by results. Aside from beating L.A. and New Jersey (both in OT), the Bolts also beat Anaheim, Minnesota and Buffalo while outscoring that trio by a count of 15-4. Indeed it looks pretty on paper but on the ice it is anything but pretty.

Tampa mustered 15 lousy shots on net in yesterday’s matinee game versus the Sabres. They won 3-1 but deserved to lose 5-0. In their 3-2 OT win over New Jersey, the Bolts mustered 20 shots on net and won 3-2 in OT in a game they deserved to lose 5-0. We could go on and on regarding the Bolts getting outplayed badly and winning but it’s redundant because it happens frequently. Now Tampa will play its third game in four days and the tail-end of back-to-backs after an afternoon game in Buffalo yesterday. The Bolts will continue their trip on the frigid East Coast here with no sense of urgency. 

While the Bolts have been playing non-playoff teams, the Red Wings have been playing the likes of Carolina, Toronto, Florida, Edmonton and other top teams and racking up six wins in eight games and now they’re an underdog at home? Detroit is rested, they’re the superior team and they catch this inferior team in a bad scheduling spot
