Ottawa +125 over Winnipeg

3:00 PM EST. OT Included. Frankly, we’re not confident in the Sens one bit. This is a sloppy team with offensive upside that could lose by five goals on any given night. However, this is a very decent spot for the Sens to get their s**t together. Ottawa has won two of three and continues to create a lot of chances while burying some pucks. They have scored four goals or more in three straight and three goals or more in five straight. Still, this is more a fade on the Jets than it is on getting behind sloppiness. 

First off, this is an afternoon game so right off the bat you can give a scheduling edge to the host playing a matinee game against a team that resides in a different time zone. Secondly, Winnipeg is red hot so there is no sense of urgency coming into this game. Even better is that the Jets play in Boston on Monday, Toronto on Wednesday and then return home to play the Maple Leafs again next Saturday. Thus, after this game it is Boston, Toronto, Toronto. It is not unreasonable to expect the Jets to get caught a little flat-footed here.

Winnipeg’s last seven games were against San Jose, Anaheim, Arizona, Columbus, Chicago, Philadelphia and the Islanders. In other words, they have played every non-contender out there. A team can pick up a lot of bad habits when playing garbage in seven consecutive games. Incidentally, Winnipeg beat ‘em all except Philadelphia. 

Finally, Winnipeg is still without Mark Scheifele. Unless you're a fan of the Jets or watch a lot of hockey, you might not understand how vital Scheifele is to that team. He plays his heart out every game. He’s impossible not to notice. He hates to lose and he plays on the top line, he plays on the PP and he plays in every crucial situation. If you ever take your kid to a hockey game and the Jets are playing, you point to Scheifele and explain, “That’s how you play hockey”. The Jets have not felt the impact of his absence yet because they have played such an easy schedule. Ottawa is not a difficult out unless you come in flat and that’s the basis of this wager. Good spot for Ottawa and a troublesome one for the Jets.
