The Blue Jackets are regarded as dregs and priced as such, but this game is the latest in a prime example of two teams who’s market perception has warped the reality playing out on the ice. The Jackets are in the basement of the Eastern Conference, but they are a team that has also lost 10 one goal games either in regulation or overtime. If we go a step further, we can see the Blue Jackets have dropped another six games by just two goals. We are talking about 16 games that had a bounce or two could have gone the other way, Columbus would have picked up a win rather than taken the loss. The Jackets have lost two straight, but they were competitive in games against the Kings and Bruins, losing to L.A. 4-3 in OT on Tuesday and Boston, 3-1.

The Islanders have a market standing that is not in line with their performance this season, and they have no business being favored in this range against a team as feisty as the Jackets. The Islanders have won five of their last eight games, but three of those wins were in extra time, two others were by one goal and another was by just two goals.

It’s worth noting that before the Islanders started getting the bounces and winning games they were not the better team, they dropped seven in a row. Over the past two weeks, the Islanders are ranked 32-of-32 teams in puck possession, they have been outshot in nine of their last 10 games and they gave up 39 shots to the Sharks on Tuesday night in a game they blew a three goal lead and lost to San Jose 5-4 in overtime. The Jackets and Islanders are so much closer in talent than this price would have you believe, and therefore we must make a wager on the undervalued Blue Jackets and keep this fade going on the Isles.
