New Jersey +101 over Carolina

8:10 PM EST. OT included. There is no sugarcoating or making excuses for the Devils in Game 1. They didn't get off the bus, and by the time they woke up and remembered there was a game to be played, it was too late. We're not going to spend much time breaking down Game 1, but we are going to point out that we love that New Jersey head coach Lindy Ruff got upstart goaltender Akira Schmid out of that game when it was clear it wasn't clicking. All signs point to Ruff going right back to the kid, which we are fully on board with. You dance with the one that brung ya, and the Devils would not be here without Schmid.

Could the oddsmakers not have made the "dominant" Hurricanes a larger price today and not swayed a bet? Why did they come right back today with the same price they posted in Game 1? The story of the first game of this series came down to the 'Canes getting the bounces and the Devils not. We can't predict if Freddie Andersen will be at his best tonight, but there is a reason that Carolina has not been able to make it past the second round despite its quality, and goaltending is it. Andersen is not free from guilt for those shortcomings. We're going to pile on and remind you that Andersen couldn't get the Maple Leafs past the first round while he was in Toronto. Game 1 was a wake-up call for New Jersey, and we are willing to forgive one slow start that spiraled out of control because we respect the body of their work. In the spirit of "sticking with it," we're coming right back on the Devils tonight to tie this series at 1-1.
