Pittsburgh -½ +110 over St. Louis

3:35 PM EST. Regulation only. The Blues are truly going nowhere this year. They have next to zero chance of making the playoffs, they sold off a lot of pieces and there are likely more sales coming over the next week. If the Blue Notes don’t have the worst goaltending duo in the entire league, they are damn close to having it. If you ever bet on the Blues, then you’re aware that you have to hold your breath every time the opposition is in St. Louis’ zone. The Blues have also dropped four in a row and just blew a 2-0 third period lead to the Canucks, a team that can’t get out of its own way and with perhaps the worst bottom six in the entire league. It is a rare day when the Blues do not give up four goals or more. St. Louis’ stock is low but so is the Penguins’ stock, which means we get to take back a small price here for the Pens to win in regulation.

Pittsburgh has also dropped four in a row but it was capped off with a resounding 7-2 loss on Thursday to Edmonton. That was one of the marquee games of the night and it was embarrassing. Pens GM, Ron Hextall heard the fans loud and clear Thursday at PPG Paints Arena, when “Fire Hextall!” chants erupted in that bad loss to Edmonton. We love that Pittsburgh was just humiliated at home and now take to the road. We love that they have lost four in a row too because there is a desperate sense of urgency to snap out of it and also to respond to one of their worst losses in a very long time. Hextall put Kasperi Kapanen on waivers shortly after that loss.

Indeed Pittsburgh has dropped four in a row but they have only had one poor performance over that span, which of course was Thursday’s loss to the Oil. In two losses to the Isles prior, Pittsburgh dominated and lost both games. They outshot the Isles by counts of 46-31 and 44-28 respectively but all the market and media sees is two losses. Both those scores are extremely misleading, as are so many other results in this hugely luck-driven outcome sport. Pittsburgh will not get outplayed here. They are going to have to get extremely unlucky to lose again. Chances are great that Pittsburgh’s elite snipers will bury a bunch past whichever goaltender the Blues choose and everything in Pittsburgh will be fine again.
