New Jersey -½ -105 over Vegas

7:37 PM EST. Regulation only. The Devils are truly an elite team. New Jersey has won games in blowout fashion and as comeback kings. It is a rare day when they don’t bury four goals or more, meaning a depleted Vegas team is going to have to get some rather fortunate bounces to keep pace. The Devils have scored four or more goals in eight of their last nine games before a 2-1 OT victory over Pittsburgh last game out. That victory over the Pens was New Jersey’s first game back after a five game trip that saw them play the final four games on the West Coast. This is their second game back. Loaded with offensive talent and strong defensively as well, the Devils are an outstanding puck possession team and should dominate in that department here.

Vegas has one victory in its last five games, a 6-2 victory over a depleted Capitals squad that was without Alex Ovechkin among others. Washington was completely disengaged and were certainly not the first team from the East to make a rare trip to Vegas and come up lame.

The Golden Knights have had some ugly defeats recently, which include a 4-1 loss to Arizona last time out, not to mention a loss to the Ducks and Red Wings and two losses to Los Angeles among others. The Golden Knights have seven wins in their last 16 games and it’s also worth mentioning that they have played the 32nd ranked Strength of Schedule (aka dead last) in the NHL. Aside from all of that, Vegas is missing a plethora of key players, making them one of the league’s most beatable teams right now. What sticks out is that Vegas is not creating. They have been held to a mere nine or fewer high-danger scoring chances in a bunch of games lately (four of their last five) and all but one of those contests came as the host. The Golden Knights were not creating against some of the worst defenses in the league. Right now, Vegas isn’t playing well enough to produce good outcomes and they will now face a true juggernaut.
