4:25 PM EST. The Raiders looked really good in the first half of that late Monday night game in Los Angeles and they actually had a 13-10 lead, but like most of the people watching outside of the West Coast, they went to bed at the break. Oakland did not score again in that game, while the Rams couldn't be stopped in a 33-13 win. That defeat was massive, as it was new head coach Jon Gruden's return to the sidelines in a high profile spot on Monday Night Football, his old show.

The Raiders took a lot of heat for how they handled the Khalil Mack situation and the defense looked lost out there at many points during that collapse to the Rams. Derek Carr, is also not the same quarterback since his injury and the fact the Raiders signed a goofball like Martavis Bryant, who was cut in the preseason, to bolster their passing attack reeks of desperation. Bryant has always been a headcase and Gruden had to acknowledge that fact when he said he "thinks" the receiver is, "in a good place right now." Carr's top two receivers (Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson) only managed to combine for 32 yards on four catches. However, they had much more to do with the depletion of Carr's skills than their own, which is saying a lot, especially in the case of Nelson. We're not going to let Gruden off the hook here either. He totally disregarded the world of advanced stats and sports science, “Are you talking about the analytics, the GPS, all the modern technology? Man, I’m trying to throw the game back to 1998". Gruden and therefore the Raiders are behind the times and out of touch.

Case Keenum's debut in Denver resulted in a win, but it probably should have been a runaway instead of a nailbiter. The veteran threw three interceptions on Sunday, but otherwise looked to pick up right where he left off in 2017 as the number one DVOA quarterback. Keenum threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns and really clicked with Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas, who both had double-digit targets, with the former hauling in 10 catches for 135 yards. Both wideouts scored a major and the "thunder and lightning" duo of Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay were nearly impossible to stop out of the backfield, as they combined for 142 yards on the ground. Lindsay also added three catches for 31 yards and a TD. Although Lindsay did not the get preseason hype, Freeman did. He was impressive in his timeshare and was nominated for Rookie of the Week. The Broncos had to sweat out the victory, but they dominated the Seahawks on both sides of the ball. The vaunted Orange Crush defense led by Von Miller was as stout as ever as he forced two fumbles (recovering one) and added three sacks on the shifty Russell Wilson. Seattle put up 306 yards of total offense, but that was paltry in comparison to Denver's 470. The Broncos also had an 11-minute time of possession advantage and had way more first downs (25 to 13). Those first game jitters from Keenum cost his team a lopsided victory, but that's ok because the Broncos are sporting a much smaller price than they should be. Denver has been one of the toughest places to play for decades and that has not changed. The Broncos are taking a big step down in competition here and while the Raiders are too from the Rams, Oakland probably played as well as it is capable of last week with high intensity and still looked horrible. Intensity will be lower this week but the blowout they suffer will be likely worse than the one they suffered in the second half last week.
