Tulane +17 over OLE MISS

Vaught-Hemingway Stadium – Oxford, MS

College Football Playoff – First Round

3:30 PM ET. At first glance, this line looks almost laughable. Ole Miss already saw Tulane earlier this season in Oxford and dismantled the Green Wave by 35 points while laying just 11.5. Now, in the same stadium, in a playoff setting, the Rebels are laying roughly half that number. On the surface, that feels light — and that’s exactly why this number demands attention.

A lot has changed since that September meeting. For Tulane, nearly everything has gone right. After that blowout loss, the Green Wave regrouped and built a playoff résumé the hard way. They beat ranked Memphis on the road. They beat ranked North Texas two weeks ago in the AAC Championship game. They also knocked off ACC champion Duke in the regular season. Yes, the loss at UTSA stands out, but it has proven to be an outlier. Tulane didn’t just sneak into the playoff — they earned it. Ole Miss, meanwhile, has been largely dominant all season with the lone blemish coming at Georgia in a game they very easily could have won. Talent-wise, this is still a top-tier SEC roster. But the timing here matters. Lane Kiffin is gone, now installed at LSU, and while continuity exists with Pete Golding stepping in and the offensive structure remaining intact for the post-season, this is still a program navigating real transition in a playoff environment.

Tulane is dealing with its own coaching situation, but there’s a key difference: John Sumrall is staying on, calling plays, and guiding this team through the postseason even after taking the Florida job. The Squids are coming in with something to prove, fully aware of how the first matchup unfolded and fully prepared to adjust. Rematches rarely mirror originals, especially when one side has had an entire season to learn from the embarrassment.

We don’t need Tulane to win this game. We don’t even need them to threaten late. We simply need them to show why they belong on this stage. Ole Miss may very well advance. But the combination of coaching disruption, inflated perception, and a motivated, battle-tested underdog creates value. Tulane can hang around, make this uncomfortable, and stay inside a number that assumes September repeats itself. But as we know the postseason is unpredictable. We are rolling with the Wave.

Here is a wager we were paid out early on that would eventually lose.
