1:00 PM ET. James Madison has crept into the polls with acclaim and national fanfare. At 9–1 and undefeated at home, they’ve emerged in the Group of Five playoff conversation, especially with the AAC beating itself up as it has recently. They’ve also been steady when it comes to profits. The Dukes are 7–3 ATS and haven’t slipped often when it comes to cashing tickets either. That’s the set-up and it’s ideal, because it is also the time of year where strange things happen.

Washington State is the kind of underdog that can create problems. Their résumé swings wildly—they’ve looked terrible at times, including a loss to an Oregon State team that had not beaten an FBS opponent, averting an upset from a FCS side to kick off the season, and getting clipped for 59 against North Texas. But they have also shown some pop: nearly beating Ole Miss in Oxford, almost beating Virginia in Charlottesville, and blowing out San Diego State who looked like another Group of Five hopeful until recently.

When the Cougs show up, they can trade blows with anyone. This is a spot where the underdog has nothing to lose and is looking to take their best swing while the host will be juggling playoff chatter and hype. This is also a notorious spot where an underdog with a pulse can make things uncomfortable. The Cougars have proven already they can do that and we wouldn’t be surprised if an upset transpired in Harrisonburg. And to anyone who thinks that the Dukes can’t play down to their opposition, look no further than the narrow win in September against Georgia State who is routinely torqued up on a weekly basis. In a game where State can easily do the unthinkable, we’ll take the points and let the chips fall where they may.
