The Panthers come in taking back an underdog-friendly number that demands attention. Neither team has looked impressive as of late; USA has dropped their last six dating back to last season, while State has lost their last four. But there is another point that underscores this spot.

The Panthers were a trendy dog play last week in their rivalry tilt at Georgia Southern, priced in the same range. The Eagles, however, would wreck their arch rivals 41-24, and that result has caused the market to step away. South Alabama was a nine-point road favorite against Arkansas State and lost by a single point, but that’s being overlooked because they had some moments of competitive spirit against Tulane, North Texas, and at Troy — all teams currently in the thick of the Group of Five playoff race or vying for the Sun Belt crown.

However, the Jags have become the quintessential false favorite, losing three games outright as chalk this season alone. The price in this contest is a signal that South Alabama cannot be trusted here. This play is not so much about the pooch but more daring the Jags to do what they are supposed to do, which every data point suggests that they will struggle to do just that. And in a game that the Panthers can easily win outright, we’ll take the points and trust Georgia State to give USA all it can handle.
