7:30 PM ET. Rice laying road chalk is the definition of a false favorite. A false favorite is a team priced as the superior side when nothing in their résumé supports it. That’s Rice to a tee.

The Owls’ profile is paper-thin. They stole a win at UL Lafayette as a double-digit dog, were blown out by Houston, then failed to cover against Prairie View A&M as a four-touchdown favorite. That’s not the résumé of a team that should be laying points on the highway.

Charlotte hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire either, but at least their schedule explains the results. They were buried by App State in Week One, held their own against UNC the following week, then picked up their first win against Monmouth. Nothing spectacular, but nothing disqualifying either.

This comes down to the number. Rice is being lined as though they’re App State — the same App State that blew Charlotte out. That can’t be. The Owls don’t have the chops to warrant this price, and the revenge narrative from last year’s loss to Charlotte is nothing but noise. Revenge is among the weakest betting angles out there.
