Texas, we’re told, is ready to dominate the SEC. Arch Manning is the next big thing. The No. 1 recruiting class is in the house. Sark has it rolling. That’s the narrative. But once again, we’re being offered a win total that reflects fantasy, not reality.

At first glance, Texas has the look. On paper, they’re stacked. In real life? They just lost the engine that drove them—Quinn Ewers. Gone too are weapons like Jaydon Blue, Isiah Bond, and Gunner Helm. Defensively, they’ll be without ballhawks like Jahdae Barron and Mukuba. What’s left is talent, sure, but talent without experience in the toughest conference in the country.

Let’s talk Arch Manning. You’ve heard the last name. You’ve seen the highlights. What you haven’t seen is him taking a real snap in a real pressure spot against an SEC defense. Texas is asking him to do what almost no first-year starter has done—lead a national championship contender through a war zone of a schedule.

It begins with a trip to Columbus against the defending champs. That’s likely a loss. Then it’s a trip to The Swamp, where teams go to die in the humidity and chaos. A week later? Oklahoma. Say what you want about the Sooners, but that rivalry doesn’t care about rosters or rankings. By midseason, Texas could easily be 3-3. But wait, there’s more…

Texas still has to visit Georgia in Athens, where they’ll get buried if they’re not perfect. They close with Arkansas and Texas A&M, two rivals that would gladly derail the Burnt Orange hype train. At +155, this under doesn’t even need a full meltdown—it just needs three losses. We’ve already listed five spots where they’re at real risk.
