Providence +4 -108 over Seton Hall

6:30 PM EST.  Seton Hall is coming off a heartbreaking, triple OT loss to Creighton but its stock did not drop because of it. Au contraire my friends, as Seton Hall’s stock went up because they played great against a very good team Creighton team that is tanked #18 in the country. Furthermore, the Pirates have won eight of their last 10 including five in a row before that one-point loss to the Bluejays. 

Providence is coming off a “so-what” win over DePaul. Prior to whacking DePaul, Providence lost four in a row including a 20-point loss to Xavier, so it’s not like the Friars stock is trending up.

After that incredible effort against Creighton on Saturday, the media is singing the praises of Seton Hall. They indeed looked great but a repeat performance here is highly unlikely. Seton Hall played its best game of the year last time out. They’ve had more than a few not so great performances this year but this line is predicated highly on recency bias. The Pirates are a team with a thin rotation so they need all starters performing at a high level to be successful. After the last game, that’s a tall order.   

Finally, it may surprise you to learn that Providence ranks 47th in the country while Seton Hall, despite a very good run recently, ranks 55th. When these two teams met in Providence earlier this month, Providence was a 6-point favorite and now Seton Hall is a 4-point favorite? That’s a 10-point swing for home court advantage and it is not warranted. The Friars are an excellent defensive team and catch Seton Hall in a very difficult spot from an energy and psychological standpoint.
