Virginia +3 over Duke

8:30 PM EST. The Blue Devils need no introduction here, as they are college hoops royalty that rank in the S-tier in the market. If you are unfamiliar with that ranking system, it features tiered letter grades that use the traditional A-to-F format you might be familiar with, but rather than “A” being the top of the chart, it’s “S” for “superb”, “super,” or “superior.” Whichever adjective you prefer. When we talk “S-Tier,” we’re talking Kansas, Kentucky, Gonzaga, and of course, the Dukies.

Through two games in this ACC tournament, the Blue Devils are 2-0, having covered both of their games. The first was a waffling of Pitt, 96-69, on Thursday afternoon as a 5½-point favorite. It’s a win that looks great on paper, but there was not a moment where Pitt was in a position to compete. Duke was hot out of the gate, going on a 12-0 run, and never looked back. It was the definition of a “cakewalk.”

What do the Cavaliers have to do to get some respect around here? Virginia is ranked #13 in the nation, but they are the “B-side” in this ACC final, as the market has taken a stand and is siding with Duke. That suits us just fine here. As if the chip on UVA’s shoulder wasn’t big enough, the extra sprinkling of disrespect from the media and the market makes for some fine last-minute locker room fodder. Moreover, the Cavs are the #2 seed, but they are playing in Duke’s backyard, as the legendary Greensboro Colloseum is less than an hour away from Cameron Indoor. You don’t think the oddsmakers were aware of that fact when they made the game nearly a pick ‘em at open? Please. Either the books are begging for wagers on Duke, or they are asleep at the wheel. We’ll trust it’s the former. Make no mistake, UVA is a live pooch and has a great chance to cut down the nets tonight, but we’ll take the three-pointer here just in case. There is too much value not to.
