7:00 PM EST. The Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament tips off tonight on this neutral court. When it is all said and done, only one team will remain standing and that is the team that will punch its ticket to the Main Event in three weeks. Remember, the goal for every NCAA Division I school is to get to the Dance but the Atlantic Sun, like many other lower-tiered conferences, is a one-bid conference, meaning only one team for the Conference will earn the privilege. That’s the way it works and it therefore sets up nicely for a bunch of tournament games to go under the number.

You see, it’s win or go home in the conference tournament and that means coaches will emphasize just how important every possession is. Coaches also put a heavy emphasis on shot selection and not putting up some three-point prayer or some low percentage shot. Teams’ will work it and look for an open shot because every shot and possession is crucial. The oddsmakers have not adjusted the numbers to represent that, instead, they use the same statistical analysis (pace, points per 100 possessions, etc) to get a working total. These conference tournament games are not like regular season games. They’re more intense and they’re more systematic.

These two teams played on Friday in the last regular season game of the year for both squads. It actually meant very little and the total in that game was 139½. The two teams combined to score 146 and now the total is higher today than it was on Friday. It truly is a great opportunity to go under, which is exactly how we’ll play if.
