Charleston Southern +9½ at UNC Asheville

6:30 PM EST. The Big South Conference is set to kick off in just over a week at Bojangles Coliseum in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina. One team, who has already punched their ticket to the top seed in that scramble for the conference’s at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament, are the Bulldogs of UNC Ashville. The Bulldogs have nothing to gain tonight other than risking injury to one of their key players that would hamper any run to a conference championship. Radford and Longwood are both three games back with only two games to play, so they’ll be in the fight for the #2 seed with Gardner-Webb. It’s worth noting that the Bulldogs' last two games were both wins over Radford and GW, which solidified Asheville locking up the #1 seed and the Big South regular-season title. If there was a time for the Bulldogs to take a breath before the real work begins, it’s tonight.

Charleston Southern has very little to do with this play, but the Buccaneers are playing with house money here, as they are locked into the Big South’s “play-in” round. Because we are so late into the season, this will be the second time the Bucs will play the Bulldogs, and so we have a pretty clear timeline of just how the inflated points being offered up here came to be. Back in mid-January, when Charleston Southern played host to Asheville, the Bucs were just a 2½-point underdog. Now, just over a month later, Southern in taking back the significant pile of points you see posted. Considering the Bulldogs need this game like they do a hole in their head, we’re going to take those inflated points without hesitation.
