Iowa -1½ over Northwestern

We’re not going to spend a lot of time on the Hawkeyes, as this wager is more about selling high on Northwestern, a team that has the spotlight on them right now after two very impressive wins. Iowa presents an entirely different challenge, as this is a contrast in styles, as Iowa is loaded offensively while Northwestern likes to play at a snail's pace. Make no mistake that Iowa is the superior team no matter how you break it down while Northwestern is overachieving to a high degree.

The Wildcats had low projections this year but after four wins in a row to run its conference mark to 10-5, Northwestern finds itself in second place in the BIG, just two games behind Purdue with five games remaining. Not really on the national radar all season, Northwestern brought attention to itself this past week with two giant wins. First, they beat then #1 Purdue and in a letdown spot v #14 Indiana, the Wildcats won again. With media attention on the upcoming tournament and Selection Sunday, Northwestern was the flavor of the week. Everybody paying attention is acutely aware of what Northwestern did this past week and now oddsmakers made them an underdog at home after four straight covers and resonating victories. If you decide to wager on Northwestern today, of course you may win, but it falls into our “too late to the party” mantra. While the Wildcats are greatly improved from a year ago, they’ve also been among the luckiest teams in the country (33rd in luck factor) while Iowa is 253rd in luck factor. It is the perfect time to sell Northwestern. The line says so.
