San Francisco -11 over Pacific

11:00 PM EST. Pacific is 3-1, both straight up and against the spread over its last four games. The Tigers won outright over Loyola Marymount, San Diego, and Pepperdine, all as an underdog, before dropping a game to Santa Clara in which Pacific was favored by 5½-points. Now back in the role of the underdog, this is a significant pile of points for the Tigers to be taking back, at least on the surface. However, there is more working here against Pacific to keep this game in range than there is working for it.

When we talk about “lookahead” spots, we are talking about the Tigers scooting up from Stockton to Spokane to take on Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon. The ‘Zags are ranked #6 in the nation and are at the top of the mountain in the West Coast Conference.

Chris Gerlufsen had big shoes to fill after Todd Golden handed him the keys to the castle he built before blitzing for greener swamps in Gainesville, but the team Gerlufsen inherited is still talented. The Dons were not expected to drop off as much as they have, as they were pegged to finish fourth in the WCC. Coming into tonight, San Francisco sits ninth in the conference with only lowly Pepperdine behind them.

Not only is the shine off the Dons, but their recent results loom large here, having failed to win or hit pay dirt in two straight games, however, we’ll point out one of those games was a prime “lookahead” spot against Portland right before the Dons played rival St. Mary’s last time out. This one lines up perfectly for San Francisco to get back on track and smack around these toothless Tigers. Swallow the points.
