Vanderbilt +8½ over Alabama

8:30 PM EST. This play has nothing to do with what either one of these teams is doing on the court, as some things just transcend basketball. Most notably—capital murder. If you have not seen the story of now former Alabama baller, Darius Miles, it’s a doozy, as he and his boy were charged with the murder of a 23-year-old single mother in Tuscaloosa at about 1:45 EST Sunday morning. Miles apparently did not fire the shots into the car she was in, but he was responsible for giving the gun to the man who did, allegedly.

That’s good enough to get you the death penalty in Alabama if convicted. We are not going to get into the ins and outs of the case itself, but we will point out that the University of Alabama has been very good at distancing itself from Miles and his association with the school, as one has to look harder than they should have to when finding out when and where he was last with the team. Miles’ profile has already been archived, as he is no longer on the official roster. The NCAA (aka Criminal Organization) along with the school with bury it under the rug.

Meanwhile, he was a third-year junior and he was with the team in street clothes (after suffering a season-ending knee injury) for the Crimson Tide’s 106-66 waffling of LSU…ON SATURDAY! SATURDAY!!! Just mere hours after that win, Miles thought it would be a good idea to chop it up on “The Strip” and start trouble over what has been reported as a minor incident, as the murdered woman declined one of the accused advances. As always, at least there was a good reason.

It’s impossible to discuss “in-game variance,” or “buying low and selling high” when there is a five-year-old boy who was already going to grow up without a father and has now lost his mother, so we aren’t going to bother. Distractions galore will liekly prevent the Tide from focusing in on the task at hand. A college basketball team is family. Imagine a family member potentially headed to death row and now you have to go to work. Any distraction is a bad dstraction. Aside from that, the Tide's stock is through the roof. as they are rabked #4 in the country. Spot inflated points at your own peril here, as we will take back inflated points here in a brutal spot for the favorite.
