UCLA -12 over Utah

11:00 PM EST. This is a high profile game between two Pac-12 “powers’ that is going to get its fair share of eyes as the best game in the 11PM EST tip-off in the late window, or what those of you on the West Coast or Vegas call, “prime time”.

The Utes are 12-5, including a 10-7 record against the spread. Utah also sports an impressive 5-1 record in conference play, trailing the Bruins by just a half game. While it looks good on the surface, under the hood is where the Utes are exposed. They’ve played a weak non-conference schedule (297th), and when you factor in their six conference tilts, that Strength of Schedule only upticks to 207th. Utah has only faced one of the two ranked teams in the Pac-12, which was Arizona in a game the Utes lost 81-66.

The other ranked team in the conference is UCLA, and while Utah has been feasting on the fat and padding its record, the Bruins are totally legit. UCLA has built its reputation by playing against the toughest teams that will face them, which includes non-conference games against ranked Illinois, Baylor, Maryland, and Kentucky. The Bruins non-conference schedule ranks 148th, but when you factor in the meat grinder of conference play where they have played a tougher slate than Utah, UCLA’s SOS is 33rd in the nation. We’re not going to be tempted by what looks like low hanging fruit in the form of a significant pile of points. The Bruins win this one big.
