Sam Houston St -3 over Grand Canyon

7:30 PM EST. The Grand Canyon Antelopes have one of the strongest home court advantages in the entire nation. The ‘Lopes are 10-4 overall but they have only played two true road games this year, thus, their record is misleading on many levels. GCU has been average at home but their 10-4 overall record has them grossly overpriced here. Grand Canyon’s last three wins, all at home, were against Cal Baptist, Idaho State and Pepperdine. The victory over Idaho St was by two points and the win over Pepperdine was in OT. They have played the 197th ranked Strength of Schedule (SOS) and have beaten up on garbage. They were tooth and nails to get by at least two teams ranked 302 or worse. The two best teams that the ‘Lopes have played this year, Wichita and Nevada, were both double digit losses. Wichita is ranked 104th in the country. Sam Houston State will be Grand Canyon’s second toughest assignment this year and this one is not in the Canyon.

Sam Houston State has played the 23rd ranked SOS in the country. They have played Utah, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and New Mexico State. They beat three of those four teams and have steamrolled weak competition. Grand Canyon is getting far too much credit here because they were projected to be one of the contenders in the MAC while SHSU was projected to be a middle of the pack squad. As it turns out, those projections seem way off and now there’s an opportunity here to get behind the superior squad at a greatly reduced price.
