NEW YORK -4.5 over Los Angeles Clippers

7:30 PM ET. A motif of today’s plays is typically overvalued sides being offered with equity in rare value spots. The Knicks fit this mantra. New York has dropped its last four outright and hasn’t covered a number dating back to before Christmas. The auto-fade target is firmly fixed to the back of Jalen Brunson’s jersey and that is one ingredient in the broth here.

Then there are the Clippers, who we backed on Monday. The market was heavily fading the Clips in Inglewood against the visiting Warriors, steaming the Clippers all the way up to a four-point underdog. Despite the contrast in records and perceived superiority with the W’s, the Clippers would control the game and win outright in a tilt that saw Steve Kerr sent off by the refs in the final quarter. Now the market is zig-zagging back on L.A. and has been scoffing up the points with the Clippers against the easy-fade Knicks. Los Angeles has also won the last three meetings as well which enhances that penchant.

Despite all of that, the Knicks opened a firm mid-range favorite which is most telling. It tells us that this is a spot New York gets off the skids and re-asserts itself in this series. Let’s not forget that this is a team that won the NBA Cup and has proven itself to be a formidable, physical, and balanced side on both sides of the court and perhaps the class of the East, this season. We get the Knicks at a discount because of recency bias and zig-zagging. We’ll take it.
