Cleveland has owned this matchup in recent years, winning nine of the last ten meetings, and has been favored in every one of them by more than what is on offer here. So why are the Cavs laying only a bucket here? The answer lies in the market’s subtle adjustment — it’s recognizing that the gap between these two teams isn’t what perception suggests. Detroit has narrowed that divide, and in this spot, the value rests with the home dog.

Cleveland’s results so far are not overwhelming. They lost by eight to New York, barely squeaked past Brooklyn, and held off Milwaukee at home in a game where the Bucks we remind all are still overcoming roster issues. It’s a decent résumé sure, but hardly suggestive of a road favorite here. That's solely rooted in recent head-to-head results. Detroit’s ledger, meanwhile, speaks louder: after nearly erasing a 23-point deficit in their opener at Chicago where the market was let-down, the Pistons beat Houston on their own court and then outplayed Boston — a win that showed this is still a playoff caliber outfit.

The Pistons’ young core — led by Cade Cunningham -- have quickly developed an ability to close games, which was their Achilles heel in last year's postseason. Now, with confidence swelling and home-court advantage in their back pocket, this is a prime chance to make a statement against a divisional rival and make it two in a row.

The market is shading toward the Cavs’ reputation rather than current form, while Detroit’s improving consistency and momentum go underappreciated. Bottom line we are getting the better side at the better number in their own backyard, that's value in a nutshell. Pistons outright.
