LA Clippers -10 over Phoenix

Intuit Dome – Inglewood, CA

10:30 PM ET. Call this one “How to Identify a Sucker Bet 101.” At first glance, this number looks inflated — the Clippers laying nearly double digits against a Phoenix team that has not only beaten them in five straight meetings but covered in four of those. Add in the fact that Los Angeles laid an egg on opening night, losing by 21 points to a lowly Utah side, and this spread appears borderline absurd. Meanwhile, the Suns come in off a gritty win over Sacramento, punishing those that backed the Kings on the moneyline which was a popular play. Thus, there is also a zig-zag element involved here too with the Suns and the market is rushing to grab the points — and that’s exactly the trap.

Oddsmakers don’t make mistakes of this magnitude. When a team coming off a blowout loss against a bottom-feeder no less, opens as a big favorite over a squad that has owned them recently, it’s not a misprint — it’s a signal. The Clippers are in a prime “buy” spot, while Phoenix, despite the optics of value, is set up as the market commodity. This is the classic “too good to be true” scenario, and when the line reads counterintuitively, you always have to ask why.

The Clippers have heard all the noise after that embarrassing opener. Expect a sharp response from a veteran team with too much pride and too much talent to sleepwalk through another game. That’s almost certainly what happened in Salt Lake City, but we are hard-pressed to believe it will happen again. The oddsmakers certainly don’t think so or they would be a smaller favorite. Sportsbooks aren’t built by hanging numbers like this by accident. The line is deliberately high to bait bettors into taking the “value” side, but when you follow that bait, you’re walking straight into the house’s trap. The Clippers are primed for a statement rebound, and the inflated skepticism makes them all the more attractive. Though it may appear opposite, this is actually a poster definition of an underlay. Dig in.

Take advantage of BET365's early MLB payout offer!

For straight bets, if the team you back to win goes 5 runs ahead at any stage during the game, BET365 will pay out your bet in full regardless of whether the opposition comes back to win the game.

For parlays and Same Game Parlays, if a team you have backed goes 5 runs ahead, this selection will be marked as won within My Bets, with the remaining selections left to run.

Here is a wager we were paid out early on that would eventually lose.
