8:00 PM ET. Rivalries have a way of throwing logic and statistics straight out the window — and that’s exactly why the Bulls make for a compelling play here. On paper, the market will lean toward Detroit. The Pistons swept Chicago in three straight meetings last February and come into the season off a competitive first-round playoff exit against New York. Despite falling 4-2 to the Knicks, Detroit showed flashes of elite potential, often leading late before collapsing in crunch time and losing in the final possession. One could argue that the Pistons should have beaten the Knicks had the bounces not gone against them and that would be a valid inference. Meanwhile, the Bulls bowed out early, losing their play-in matchup against Miami — a team that got swept by Cleveland in the first round.

At first glance, this seems like an easy spot to back the supposedly superior side in Detroit. Yet the line tells a different story. For a team coming off a more appetizing postseason appearance and a clear upper hand in the head-to-head series, the Pistons are barely favored — not even laying a full possession on the road. That line alone should raise eyebrows. If recent results were the only metric, Detroit would be expected to command a much higher price. The fact that they don’t, creates an opportunity for those willing to read between the lines.

Chicago enters this season under the radar and with something to prove. Kind of like Detroit, last season. Now Detroit goes from the hunter to the hunted and we are not sure they are ready for that role. The Pistons may have the hype, but the number tells us the market isn’t buying it. In what will be a gritty, competitive game. Chicago is primed to feed off the energy of the moment and can certainly find a way to spoil Detroit’s opener. The setup, emotion, and price all line up perfectly. Bulls outright.
