Chicago -1½ +175 over Houston

Sean Burke (RHP – Chicago) – 3.62 ERA

Hunter Brown (RHP – Houston) – 4.05 ERA

7:10 PM EST. Sean Burke has developed into one of the hottest starters in baseball, and his recent numbers suggest Chicago is in an excellent position to win this game by margin. Over his last five outings, Burke has produced a dominant 1.44 ERA and 0.89 WHIP while backing those results with a 3.81 xERA and an outstanding 18% K-BB%. His strikeout profile has reached another level, carrying a 32% strikeout rate and a 14.0% swinging-strike rate during that stretch. Burke's season-long strikeout rate works out to more than 10.0 K/9, while his BB/9 has remained comfortably below 3.0. Those are the numbers of a pitcher capable of taking complete control of a game.

Hunter Brown has been solid with a 4.05 ERA, but his underlying metrics don't separate him from Burke. His xERA trends slightly higher than his ERA, his K/9 remains strong, and his BB/9 has created enough extra traffic to elevate pitch counts throughout the season. Chicago's lineup has shown better discipline at the plate recently, consistently forcing opposing starters to work deeper into counts and creating scoring opportunities throughout the game. Burke's current form gives the White Sox a legitimate advantage on the mound.

Taking the run line with Chicago is the play in this one tonight, the White Sox have the hotter starting pitcher and are catching a market that continues to underestimate Burke's emergence. His swing-and-miss arsenal has been among the best in baseball over the past month, and the underlying metrics support every bit of the recent success. Chicago is playing at home with the better current pitching profile, making this an excellent opportunity for the White Sox to control the game from the first inning and finish with a multi-run victory.
