6:40 PM EST. Sandy Alcantara (RHP - Miami Marlins) is beginning to resemble the frontline starter that won a Cy Young Award earlier in his career. The veteran right-hander enters with a 4.35 ERA, but his raw numbers don't fully reflect the quality of his recent work. Alcantara continues to log innings, generate weak contact and give Miami a chance to win virtually every time he takes the mound. His power sinker remains one of the best ground-ball weapons in baseball, and when he's commanding it effectively, opposing lineups often struggle to elevate the baseball. For an underdog, having a proven ace-caliber arm on the mound immediately creates value, especially against a Pittsburgh offense that has been inconsistent throughout much of the season.

Braxton Ashcraft (RHP - Pittsburgh Pirates) has put together a solid campaign overall with a 3.30 ERA, but he enters this start off his roughest outing in recent memory. The young right-hander was tagged for six runs over five innings in Atlanta, exposing some of the command issues that can surface when hitters force him into unfavorable counts. While Ashcraft has shown promise and possesses quality stuff, young pitchers often experience volatility, particularly after opponents begin building a larger scouting sample. One poor start doesn't define a season, but it does raise questions about whether the market is giving him too much credit against a veteran arm with a significantly longer track record of success.

The value side here is Miami. The Marlins won't overwhelm opponents with offensive firepower, but games featuring Sandy Alcantara tend to be played on his terms. His ability to work deep into games reduces bullpen exposure and keeps Miami competitive even when runs are difficult to come by. Pittsburgh may deserve respect at home, but the gap between these teams is not large enough to justify a substantial price when the better proven starting pitcher is taking the mound for the underdog. With Alcantara capable of neutralizing the Pirates' lineup and Ashcraft coming off a shaky performance, Miami offers legitimate upset potential and attractive value as a road dog.
