Detroit +120 over Toronto
6:45 PM EST. Braden Hanifee (RHP - DET) gets the ball for Detroit and while there’s limited major-league data available, the early returns have been encouraging. Hanifee enters with a spotless ERA and has shown solid command and composure in his opportunities so far. Detroit has done an excellent job developing young pitching recently and Hanifee’s heavy fastball profile fits well against a Toronto lineup that has struggled to consistently string hits together this season. The Tigers have also played noticeably better at home, where their pitching staff has been far more aggressive attacking hitters early in counts. Detroit’s bullpen has quietly become one of the more reliable units in the American League as well, giving the Tigers a strong chance if Hanifee can simply keep the game under control through the first five innings.
Trey Yesavage (RHP - TOR) has been dominant statistically with a tiny 0.69 ERA, but this still feels like a dangerous spot for Toronto laying road chalk. Yesavage remains relatively inexperienced at the major-league level and young pitchers often face adjustment periods once opponents begin building scouting reports. Detroit’s offense has become more competitive recently, particularly at Comerica Park where the Tigers have generated more consistent run production and better situational hitting. Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson continue to provide middle-of-the-order power while Detroit’s younger hitters are showing improved plate discipline against right-handed pitching.
Backing Detroit at plus money makes sense because the gap between these teams isn’t nearly as large as public perception suggests right now. Toronto continues to be an inconsistent offensive club and the Blue Jays have struggled repeatedly in games where they fail to score early. Detroit, meanwhile, has been playing with confidence at home and continues to get strong contributions from both its pitching staff and bullpen depth. Hanifee doesn’t need to dominate this matchup — he just needs to keep Toronto from building momentum early while Detroit’s offense chips away against a young starter still adjusting to major-league hitters. In a game that projects tighter than the odds imply, taking the Tigers at plus money is the value side.
