Rogers Centre – Toronto, ON

MLB World Series Game One

8:00 PM ET. The prevailing narrative here is already set — not if the Dodgers win, but how long this World Series will last? The market is all but ready to crown L.A. as back-to-back World Champions, and with that comes the inevitable premium you pay to back the Boys in Blue. The Dodgers are baseball’s dynastic brand, their name alone inflates the price, especially here, and that’s precisely why the value lies with Toronto.

The Jays are home, fresh off a massive Game Seven win on Monday that propelled them to their first World Series in over 30 years — yet the storyline somehow ignores them entirely. Let’s take a step back. What have the Dodgers actually done? They swept a Wild Card team that backed into the playoffs (The Reds). They barely escaped Philadelphia in the NLDS, surviving because the Phillies beat themselves. Then Shohei Ohtani single-handedly carried them past Milwaukee — a series that was far more competitive than the sweep suggests. Take away the Ohtani spectacle and the Dodgers won two of their remaining three wins against Milwaukee by a combined three runs.

Toronto, meanwhile, went into the Bronx and handled the Yankees with ease. They then clawed back from a 2-0 deficit against perhaps the deepest lineup in baseball. But the market is still revelling in Ohtani’s generational accolades and salivating over the Dodgers logo.

On the hill tonight, Blake Snell gets the ball for L.A. — 3-0 with a ridiculous 0.86 ERA this postseason — and yes, the optics are shiny and reinforce the fervour for the defending champs. But dig deeper: Snell has been living on borrowed time, propped up by extreme positive variance — a .154 BABIP and 82% strand rate. Trey Yesavage counters for the Jays, the same arm who blanked the Yankees in the ALDS and delivered a series-saving Game Six win over Seattle after making the proper adjustments from his earlier stumble in that series. Snellzilla is due for regression, and Yesavage has already shown he can rise to the moment against top-tier opposition. If both happen, the Jays can steal Game One here. At an inflated price, the value is undeniable, and worth finding out.

Here is a wager we were paid out early on that would eventually lose.
