Jack Flaherty continues to be undervalued because of his poor win/loss record (1-4), but he has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, racking up 81 punchouts in 61 innings over 10 starts while walking just nine. Flaherty has struck out at least nine batters in four of those 10 turns and sports an elite swing-and-miss rate of 14.9%. Oh, by the way, eight of those appearances have been quality starts. Flaherty’s surface ERA is solid at 3.84, but it’s higher than his xERA, which is a sparkling 2.76.

Meanwhile, Nick Pivetta is a shaky favorite here at home, as he’s not been able to find any consistency since coming back from the IL. In his last start on Saturday, Pivetta gave up five runs on seven hits and walked three across just 3.1 IP versus the Brewers. That stat line could have been uglier, believe it or not, as Pivetta got out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning. In his four starts since his injury, Pivetta has an xERA of 5.76, and he’s given up 13 ER in 19 IP. Until he shows that he has fully returned to form, Pivetta is a potential fade target when he’s the chalk.
