Tampa Bay +150 over NY Yankees

7:05 PM EST. You’ll have to excuse us while we crap our pants in awe of the New York Yankees starting lineup. Half the players in their lineup are barely hitting above the Mendoza line. We’re just hoping we are not too late to this party but the Yanks are gripping their bats tighter than ever right now and they’ll face a team that cannot be taking back +150 with this starter going.

Jeffrey Springs (RHP - TB) has excelled in high-leverage roles many times in the past and is doing the same typing again this year. He is proving that his across-the-board numbers are no fluke, and this time he isn't being done in by terrible luck. Springs’ track record of success is short but it’s real and with added velocity and 38% K% vR, it wouldn't be surprising to see him dominate any lineup. Springs has a BB/K split of 18/91 in 84 innings with an elite swing and miss rate of 15%. In addition, Springs was also dealing with the hospitalization of his 5-month-old son, who was being treated for an infection in his spinal fluid. That situation is much better now and we have to trust that so is Springs’ focus. This kid can pitch and is being offered up at such a sweet price that it is a must-play for us.

The Yanks are a big price here because they’re the Yanks and because Nestor Cortes has registered a 2.15 ERA over his last five starts at home. Since 2020, he’s clocked a 2.45 ERA, 0.99 WHIP at Yankee Stadium. He owns a 2.96 ERA across his last five starts against Tampa Bay. The Rays have been a road struggling club all season (.681 OPS), and that has certainly been the case so far in the second half (.669 OPS). We still don’t care. As Cortes is worse than his numbers and Springs is too good to be taking back a price like this.
