Caroline Wozniacki wins 2-0 over Maria Timofeeva

Best Odds: -115 at Sportsinteraction

7:00 PM EST. Caroline Wozniacki decided to leave the color-commentary chair and make her triumphant return to the tennis court and it was quite the watch in 2023. The former grand-slam champion looked as dominant as she is beautiful in her return, lasting to the round of 16 in the U.S. Open and giving the U.S. Open champion, Coco Gauff, all she could handle over three sets. Wozniacki started her return with warm-ups in the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters, falling short against the surging Marketa Vondrousova, hardly something to hang her head over, and looking less than motivated in a quick outing in Ohio last year.

The grand-slam arena is where we saw the true Wozniacki, and boy did she deliver. The 33-year old beat world's #11 Petra Kvitova in straight sets and followed it up with two dominant second and third sets against the formidable Jennifer Brady, who entered the top 50 in 2023. Caroline drew another difficult opponent at the start of the year, losing in quick sets against #2 ranked Elina Svitolina, who has been playing some of the best tennis of her career as of late. No problem for Wozniacki - she began her Aussie Open with a clean, dominant performance over #20 Magda Linette, beating her 6-2 in the first set before a second set walkover.

On Tuesday Wozniacki will be handed an opponent she should take to the proverbial woodshed. Maria Timofeeva is a 20-year Russian who has a career-high ranking of 125th. In bigger, more pressure-filled tournaments, she has had virtually no success. In the U.S. Open she was quickly ousted by no-name Elvina Kalieva, she failed to make it beyond her first match in Wimbledon, and in the French Open she earned two early victories against bottom-feeder opponents before getting properly booted by Taylor Townsend, a powerful American who mirrors Wozniacki's style. There is no evidence that Timofeeva is ready for this level of competition, and Caroline's veteran savvy and resurgent motivation to put a stamp on a 2024 grand-slam run means her focus will be at an all-time high. We're taking Wozniacki in two quick sets without hesitation.
