7:00 PM EST. We are sticking with Ottawa like gum on the bottom of a shoe. Once again this is not a case of suggesting the Redblacks are the better football team; the market has already established BC as the superior side. The problem is that we are being asked to lay a number that leaves very little margin for error. Once a spread gets this high, the favorite has to do more than simply win the football game — it has to create separation, and that is a much tougher proposition.

Ottawa has been far too inconsistent to attract much public support, which is exactly why we are getting the number we want. There have been stretches where the Redblacks have competed well enough to stay in games, and playing this one in their own building gives them another reason to remain engaged from the opening whistle. BC will have the pressure of being expected to take care of business, while Ottawa can play the role we prefer for an underdog: hang around, make the favorite uncomfortable and let the points do the rest.

We are also not interested in making this handicap more complicated than it needs to be. BC does not have to lose for Ottawa to cash this ticket. That is the key distinction. A close BC victory still works for us, and a game that goes back and forth deep into the second half puts the points in an even stronger position. The Lions may be the better team, but being better and covering a large number are two entirely different propositions.

Ottawa plus the points is the play. We are taking the home underdog and making BC prove that it can separate from a team that has every reason to fight for four quarters. The market has already charged us for BC's superiority. We are not paying the additional premium. Give us Ottawa and the points. Either way this plays out this is still the right way to play this one. See you in the end zone!
