Detroit is in a three-way tie with the Capitals and Flyers for the final Wild Card (WC2) in the East. The Red Wings will need to finish ahead of both of those teams to clinch WC2 because Washington and Philadelphia both hold the tiebreaker over Detroit. With the Capitals and Flyers playing each other and one being guaranteed at least two more points, the Wings need at least three points over their last three games to get in. In short, the Red Wings could be eliminated with a loss here tonight to Montreal.

Misery loves company, and the Canadiens have a tremendous opportunity to bring the Red Wings down to their level and end their season in game 81 of 82, and even if they don’t, they’ll get another crack in game 82, as this is a home and home with Detroit to end the season. The Habs have dealt some blows down the stretch, winning games against the Flyers (twice), Panthers, and Colorado over their last 10 games. The Habs are on a three-game point streak, having picked up points in overtime losses to Ottawa and the Islanders over their two games. While the final results have been somewhat disappointing, the effort is not. Win, lose, or draw, there is great value to be had here on the Habs, as they get two cracks to send the Wings packing.
