Carolina -1½ +131 over Toronto

6:07 PM EST Regulation only. The Hurricanes catch the Maple Leafs here on a quick turnaround, as Toronto disposed of the Oilers last night at home in The Big Smoke, 6-3. On paper, it was an impressive win over Connor McDavid and company in what could be a potential Stanley Cup preview, but under the hood, we can see the Leafs did not play their best game and benefitted greatly from some shaky Oilers goaltending. Toronto would be outshot by Edmonton 39-to-29, but that game was 2-0 after 20 minutes and 5-0 after 40, but the Oilers did make it interesting, bringing the Leafs within striking range, as it was 5-3 with just under four minutes to play, but Toronto would add an empty netter to pad the score. There was little time for celebration after that game, as the Leafs headed right for the team jet and a trip South to North Carolina.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are coming off a wild 7-6 overtime loss to Washington on Friday night, but prior to that, Carolina ripped off five wins in a row and have won eight of their last 10. Rarely do the ‘Canes get outplayed and that figures to be the norm again today with the Leafs potentially running on an empty tank after such a high-profile game on Hockey Night in Canada last night. McDavid and the Oilers only come to Hogtown once a year so the atmosphere at Scotia Bank Arena was palpable even through the television. If the Leafs are able to bring the level of intensity and effort necessary to keep up with one of the league's best, we’ll tip our caps, but we trust the Leafs need this one-off road trip to Raleigh like they need a hole in the head and we’re going to play this game as such, laying the -1½ pucks.
