5:05 PM EST. OT included. The Rangers played one of their best games of the season last time out at home against the Flames in a deserving 4-3 win. That’s nice and we give the Rangers credit for actually giving a rat’s ass but that was in response to the team president coming out publicly and waving the proverbial white towel. The team rallied but don’t expect it to last, as the Rags can easily fall into being the sloppy, unfocused and ineffective team that they’ve been for most of the season. Furthermore, the Rags will be without Ryan McDonagh today, who just happens to be the stabilizing force on that rancid defense. We’re not going to let the Rangers last effort at home deter us from fading them again here in this matinee affair in frigid Winnipeg.

Perhaps the best thing about the Jets here is that they’re coming off one of, if not their worst effort of the year in a 5-23 loss to St. Louis on Friday. Coach Paul Maurice was livid about his teams’ effort. “Don’t burn the house down after you’ve had one bad game,” said Maurice. “We’ll be good (Sunday), we’ll skate well. There are other things in play here too. Mark Schiefele returned to the lineup and played over 23 minutes. He now has one game under his belt with no issues so now that’s out of the way. The Jets hold down the best home record in the NHL this season at 20-3-2, good for an .840 points percentage. They have also won 16 of their last 18 home games, outscoring their opposition 69-33 in the process and have scored four goals or more in 15 of the 20 wins at Bell MTS Place. After a poor effort, the Jets could not have handpicked a better opponent to get after.
