7:05 PM EST. The Rangers lost 4-2 at Washington last night but the Rags had come into that game having won six of their previous seven. New York has also been dynamite at home with an 11-5-2 record and in this market they are considered to be the superior team here. We’re not so sure about that but what we are sure about is that the Rags are beatable on their best day and cannot be this big a price over the Devils. New York’s possession numbers are weak, as they rank 26th in Corsi For and 28th in Corsi against. Incredibly enough, this will be just the third time this season that the Rags will play on consecutive nights. Even more remarkable is that they haven’t played on consecutive nights since way back on October 13 and 14, which is almost two months ago. By contrast, the Devils have played consecutive nights six times already this season so this marks the seventh time. It may not mean anything but the Devils are in more familiar territory in that regard. Incidentally, the Devils have gone 4-2 in the tail end of back-to-backs in those six tries this season.

The Devils were energetic and very good last night despite the 5-3 loss. Cory Schneider allowed five goals on 28 shots for a save percentage of .821. New Jersey has only lost two in a row once over the past month, which is a stretch of 13 games. The Devils are a team that are in almost every game they play. They also have one of the league’s best road records at 10-3-1. Frankly, we don’t see where the Rangers have any advantage here and even if we call it a toss-up or a 50/50 proposition, the price on the Devils absolutely seals the deal. Finally, the Rags have played the easiest schedule in the league (ranked 31st) and they still have fewer points than the Devils. Of course New Jersey can win here.
