9:35 PM EST. Regulation only. Desperate for wins, Philadelphia went into Calgary on Monday and snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 5-2 win. On paper, it looks the Flyers came out hungry and determined to snap such a horrible streak and did so with a three-goal victory. On the ice, it was a different story. Calgary had 30 scoring chances to the Flyers 16. Calgary outshot Philly, 45-21 and held a massive Corsi edge of 66.22% to the Flyers 31.58%. This was total domination against the Flyers but the final score will mislead others into thinking the Flyers woke up. They didn’t. It’s a huge concern that Philadelphia played anything like a desperate team. Instead, they were content to get outworked for almost every loose puck and only won because Brian Elliott had a rare big game. Over the past month, the Flyers advanced metrics, both offensively and defensively are in the lower tier of NHL clubs.

All eyes will be on Oilers goalie Laurent Brossoit here. Brossoit has moved from the role of little-used backup to the main man in net since the Oilers placed Cam Talbot on injured reserve last week. While the Oilers beat the visiting Calgary Flames 7-5 on Saturday, Brossoit allowed four late goals to turn a 6-1 third-period lead into a nail-biter, including allowing two very soft goals on hit-and-hope shots from the corner. Now Edmonton’s stock is lower than it should be because of it. Let us not ignore than Talbot has been shaky all year. Let us also not ignore that the Oilers have won three of four while playing much better. The Oil have more balance in their lines right now and Connor McDavid is reported to be feeling much better after a prolonged bout with the flu. An energized Edmonton squad that is finding its bearings gets this call.
